As the East Coast of the United States endures the fury of Sandy, our prayers go out to them. Storms are always a quick reminder of the power that is quite beyond our control—that power that resides with God alone.
Psalms 107:29 comments that God “stilled the storm to a whisper; the waves of the sea were hushed.” It is a little late for this. But Jesus intervened in the same way for His disciples after the storm was raging. “He got up and rebuked the wind and the raging waters; the storm subsided, and all was calm” (Luke 8:24).
It will be a while before the waves are calm and even longer before the twisted trees and strewn streets are placed in order. But it is my sincere prayer that “the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:7).
