The Sound of Mourning

When the foundations are being destroyed, what can the righteous do?” Psa. 11:3
The once peaceful mountains of Virginia have received a baptism in blood, and the valley echoes with the sound of mourning. What seems too fantastic to be a movie, a scene that would draw scorn in a novel—is real. Again and again my mind ponders and cannot reconcile the reality of such evil and the suddenness with which it strikes. I closed my eyes and went to sleep hoping for better things. The prayers I cannot pray came out as “groans that words cannot express” (Rom. 8:26).
I lay my requests before You and wait in expectation. Psa. 5:3
Because He is a good God who sees, hears, and cares for His people I will wait on Him. I wait expectantly because surely, surely a righteous judge will punish such evil. Even as the foundations are being destroyed, the righteous are not powerless and—neither is our God. He is not just in His heaven. He is here with us, suffering with us, mourning with us.
